Alfred Nobel was born on October 21, 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was a scientist, inventor, businessman and the founder of the Nobel Prize.

On the one hand, he was a famous scientist. Nobel focused on developing nitroglycerine. He used it to invent dynamite in 1867, a thing easier and safer to use. Dynamite was used widely in construction. In Nobel’s life, he had 355 patents.

On the other hand, he is a very skillful businessman. By 1865, he built factories in 90 different places in more than 20 countries. Victor Hugo, a famous French novel, said that Nobel was an "Europe's richest vagabond".

Most his works were about weapons. But he was interested in literature and wrote his own poetry.

In 1864, Nobel’s experiments caused an accident. It killed some people, including his younger brother, Emil. At that time, a French newspaper wrongly published the death of Nobel instead of Emil, and condemned Nobel for his invention of dynamite.

Nobel was deeply disappointed. However, he did not want that everyone would remember him like a bad guy. Therefore, he used his money to create the Nobel Prizes. It honored men and women for outstanding achievements.

Nobel died in San Remo, Italy on December 10, 1896. In his last life, he wanted to give prizes to those who have done their best for humanity in the field of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace.

In 1901, the first Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology, Medicine and Literature were first awarded in Stockholm, Sweden.
